Singapore Trips | Traditional Crafts

When you think of pouring tea, “craftsmanship” is probably the last thing that comes to mind. After all, we boil the kettle and just pour hot water into the leaves or tea bag, right? Your Singapore tourist guide might differ with you. In Chinatown, we can learn a lot about the early Chinese immigrants to Singapore and how to pour a traditional Chinese tea! Come with us on a Singapore night tour and you’ll learn about various elements of traditional Chinese tea creation and culture, with deep dives into the history, philosophy and different strains of tea. You have not booked the night tour? Don’t worry! Your Singapore tour guide can take you there on any of our private tours!

Hello Singapore
Singapore Tour | Chinese New Year Traditions

With Chinese New Year in full bloom, you might have come across many different foods on your Singapore city tour. One of these is the so-called “Lo Hei” or “Yusheng”. A Cantonese-style raw fish salad, usually, consists of strips of raw fish (sometimes salmon), mixed with shredded vegetables and a variety of sauces and condiments, among other ingredients. Yusheng literally means "raw fish" but since "fish" can also be translated as  "abundance”, Yúshēng is interpreted as an increase in abundance. Therefore, yusheng is considered a symbol of abundance, prosperity and vigor. You can learn these and many other interesting traditions on your private tours Singapore!

Hello Singapore
Singapore Activities | Chinese New Year

With the Chinese New Year approaching, we are entering the Year of the Rat! Don’t worry, that does not mean that we are heading for a rat invasion :-) According to one myth, the Jade Emperor said the order would be decided by the order in which they arrived to his party. The Rat tricked the Ox into giving him a ride. Then, just as they arrived at the finish line, Rat jumped down and landed ahead of Ox, becoming first. Hence, rats are known to be clever, quick thinkers; successful, but content with living a quiet and peaceful life. Do you know your Chinese Zodiac? Ask you guide on your Singapore tour!

Hello Singapore
Singapore Tourist Guide | Meet Dan!

Welcome to a new episode of "Meet your Singapore tour guide " This is the latest blog of our series to introduce you to the people who take you on Singapore day tours. If you book your Singapore tours, chances are your tour guide might be Dan. Dan moved to Singapore many years ago for work and decided to stay! Making Singapore his home, he is full of fun facts and fascinating information that will make you feel how much Dan loves "his" Lion City. If you book a Singapore tour, with him you are sure to be in for a treat and will definitely make the most of your time here! Let's see what Dan had to say in our short interview:** What is your favourite Singlish word?--> As a Westerner, I often get surprised looks when I speak Singlish. The words I most often use are “Tahan” and “Mafan”. “Tahan” means able to withstand and I might use it when showing off that I can eat spice with my local friends. When we take that first bite of a very spicy Mala Hot Pot you might see me look across the table and ask, “Can tahan or not?” as a bit of a friendly challenge. “Mafun” means troublesome. I use it in place of “pain in the [backside]” and I feel a bit more refined. "What is your favourite makan (food) place?--> Old Airport Road hawker centre is my favourite makan place because there are many options to choose from it never gets old! My favourite foods to eat there are fried beef hor fun, popiah, and carrot cake.  **Don’t we all love a good popiah? Delicious!!! **Do you have a favourite place in Singapore?--> Again, it's hard to choose just one. For nightspots during the week, I enjoy Al Capone's at Far East Shopping Centre. It's on the luxurious Orchard Road, but it is one of the most reasonable places to have a drink and enjoy live music. They mostly play old rock blues during the week. Another favourite of mine is Going Om on Haji Lane. It is a more chilled out vibe with low-lit lanterns and live music with a Lo-Fi vibe. For an outing in the day, there are many beautiful, lesser-known parks such as the Toa Payoh Town Park that are perfect for a picnic with family and friends.  ** Tell us the funniest thing that happened to you during a tour.--> So many funny things happen on tours it's hard to choose just one. I really enjoy a clever joke and sometimes tourists are very witty. A chef was on a food tour with me and as I pointed out the old Jewish Quarter from the edge of Little India, he asked if there were any kosher delis there. I explained where he could find a good kosher deli, but it wasn't in this particular area and he quickly quipped as we walked back into the heart of Little India, "I guess there wouldn't be old delis in New Delhi." ** We definitely look forward to more of those funny incidents with you!

Always smiling… This is our Dan!

Hello Singapore
Singapore Tour Bus | Jewish History

As a multicultural country, Singapore has people from many different backgrounds. For example, on Singapore car tours, you can learn about the Maghain Aboth Synagogue which is a reminder of how far back Singapore’s multicultural roots go. Constructed in 1878, the synagogue is one of the oldest surviving Jewish buildings in Southeast Asia and stands in what used to be the country's Jewish quarter.

The Maghain Aboth Synagogue is a gem in more ways than one, providing both a snapshot of history and a glimpse into a rich culture. However, if you would like a visit on your Singapore car tours, we will need to pre-arrange it far in advance.
