Bak Chang is a triangular gluttonous rice dumpling wrapped in a bamboo leaf. Originating from China they made their way to Singapore with the early Chinese immigrants.
A wide range of fillings are available. The Cantonese Bak Chang typically has a bean paste filling, and the Hokkien version uses dark soya sauce in the glutinous rice. The Nonya Bak Chang is a unique variation, created in Singapore and it is this one that we try on our Singapore food tours.
