Singapore City Tour - The Merlion
If you ever had a Singapore city tour from the airport, you will definitely have seen the Merlion. But what is this half-lion, half-fish mascot actually? When he arrived he saw a majestic creature which appeared to be a lion so he decided to name the island settlement Singapura which means ‘Lion City. The Merlion, however, was created in the 1960s by the Singapore Tourism Board to symbolize the head of the lion creature that the prince saw and the body is a fish to symbolize Singapore's humble beginnings as a fishing village.
