Singapore Tour | The tale of the fish tail
If you ask about Singapore’s icons, the Merlion will be one of the first things you will hear on Singapore tours. The fish tail symbolises our humble beginnings as a fishing village. In those days our city was called Temasek, which derives from the Malay word for “lake”. The head of the Merlion represents Singapore’s original name, Singapura, which again derives for the Malay word for ‘lion city’. Lions in Singapore? Could that be?
Ask you tour guide on your Singapore tours about the legend of the lion that gave us the name “Lion City”!
